Retaining Walls in Port Macquarie
Port Macquarie is building fast. New estates in Thrumster and Sovereign Hills mean cut-and-fill blocks and level changes between neighbours, while older homes along the Hastings River and coastal blocks at Lake Cathie and Bonny Hills deal with water and sand.
RETAINEASE supplies engineered concrete sleepers to Port Macquarie homeowners, landscapers and builders, made at our factory in Cardiff. Every sleeper is steel reinforced, made to meet Australian Standards and won’t rot, warp or discolour. Choose from Woodgrain, Smoothface, Stackstone and Split Face Block in a range of colours.
We supply the complete retaining wall system … reinforced sleepers, galvanised steel channels and concrete post and rail. We also make sleepers for pavers, steps and sea walls.

Why Choose RetainEase in Port Macquarie
Made for new estates.
Sovereign Hills is part of a $1.5 billion masterplan, and its Sovereign Rise stage alone will add up to 135 homes. Our sleepers come in four profiles and a range of colours, so they can suit estate design guidelines while doing the structural work.
Ready for flood and coastal land.
In March 2021 the Hastings River reached Short Street and Clarence Street, and council later counted more than 1,000 impacted locations. Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s coastal planning also flags acid sulfate soils near the estuaries. Reinforced concrete handles wet ground and salt air without rotting.
Built for the rain.
Port Macquarie averages around 1,408 mm of rain a year, with March the wettest month. A properly drained concrete sleeper wall keeps its line for decades.
Port Macquarie Retaining Wall FAQs
Do I need council approval for a retaining wall in Port Macquarie?
Port Macquarie falls under Port Macquarie-Hastings Council. Many low retaining walls, generally up to 600 mm, can be built as exempt development under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008, if they meet the policy’s conditions. Taller walls, or walls near boundaries, on flood-prone land or on coastal land, usually need a complying development certificate or development application.
If you’re on a new estate, check its design guidelines too.
Does acid sulfate soil affect my retaining wall?
It can. Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s coastal planning flags acid sulfate soils in low-lying estuary areas, and disturbing them can release acid. If your planning certificate (Section 10.7) shows acid sulfate soils, ask council what controls apply before you dig footings.
